A giggly indoor toddler game that sparks imagination and bonding
(Indoor toddler game | Pretend play | Dad and child bonding)
Location
Indoor or Outdoor
Perfect for rainy afternoons, bedtime wind-downs, or anytime your child shouts, “I want a ride!”
Materials Needed
- Just Daddy’s strong shoulders!
- Optional: scarf for a “seatbelt”
- Mess-free, zero setup
How to Play (Step-by-Step)
- Get into character. Tell your child, “The Daddy Taxi is ready for service!” Kneel down and let them climb on your shoulders gently.
- Roleplay begins. Ask, “Where to, dear passenger?” and let them point or answer, “To Mom, please!”
- Start the ride. Walk slowly around the house, adding fun engine noises or music. You can say:
- “Hold on tight, we’re going through a tunnel!”
- “Oops! Bumpy road ahead!”
- End with payment. When you arrive, hold out your hand and say, “That’ll be one kiss, please!”
Variations
- Younger toddlers: Let them ride on your back instead of your shoulders.
- Pretend taxi map: Draw a “city map” on the floor using tape, with destinations like Kitchen Station, Bedroom Park, etc.
- Reverse ride: Have the child give you directions like “Left! Right! Faster!”

🧪 Tae Ree’s Lab
The first time I said, “Where to, customer?” Tae Ree took it SO seriously. She gave me a straight face and said, “To the snack shop!”
She loved giving directions and laughed every time I pretended to hit a bump or “drive through rain.”
After three rides, she announced: “This taxi needs gas!” and lay down on my back like she was charging.
I couldn’t stop smiling.
